# TokenGauge > TokenGauge is a free, open source (MIT) macOS menu bar usage monitor for Claude Code and Codex, with private local history and signed updates. It runs on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 14 or later. ## Key facts - Native menu-bar-only macOS app. Apple Silicon only, macOS 14 or later. Intel builds are not distributed. - Shows remaining quota and reset times: Claude 5h session, weekly and model weekly limits; Codex general weekly limit, with the Luna weekly reserve kept separate. - Codex, Claude or Unified views; Classic, Compact or Rings panel; menu bar indicator as percentages, mini bars or mini rings in Large, Medium or Small. - Token history in three views: 7 days, Week (Monday-based) and Year, stored in a local SQLite history. - Optional hourly pace estimate (percentage points per hour) for each weekly limit, and a verdict under the 5-hour session saying whether it lasts until the reset. - Stats view: a forecast for every weekly and 5-hour limit that projects the recent pace to the reset and shows what will be left or when it runs out, plus today's tokens against a usual day, the last 14 days by model, activity, models, reasoning effort and top skills. Each Stats card can be collapsed and the choice is remembered. - Privacy: reads the existing Claude Code credential from the macOS Keychain in memory only and never writes or renews it. The only network request TokenGauge makes itself is Anthropic's usage endpoint with that token; update checks go to GitHub through Sparkle. Codex data comes from the user's local codex app-server, with no HTTP call by TokenGauge. Local session logs are read for timestamps, model, reasoning effort and token counts, never prompt or response content. Data is stored in Application Support with user-only access. No analytics or telemetry. - No Accessibility, Automation, Screen Recording or Full Disk Access required. - Optional, manual status-line script in the repository; the app never edits Claude Code's configuration. - English and Spanish. Signed Sparkle 2 updates from GitHub Releases; automatic checks run in the background while enabled and can be turned off. - Independently developed; not affiliated with Anthropic or OpenAI. ## Links - Website: https://tokengauge.stevenacz.com/ - Spanish: https://tokengauge.stevenacz.com/es/ - Download: https://github.com/StevenACZ/TokenGauge/releases/latest - Source: https://github.com/StevenACZ/TokenGauge - More Mac apps by the same developer: https://apps.stevenacz.com/ - Developer: https://stevenacz.com/
